"Gränsland"tour Sweden-Norway, 5 days The boarderland tour is a brilliant paddling route that takes you through both Sweden and Norway. Our canoe base is right on the Norwegian border, and this is where your trip begins on lake Stora Le, which forms the start of the famous Dalsland Canal. The trip takes 5 days, but you can always add extra days if you like. Once you've picked up your boats and gear, you paddle north through untouched nature. Pure wilderness, endless forests with hardly any buildings, and very few people make for a really relaxing time outdoors. You'll find DANO campsites with fire pits and wind shelters every 7-10 km on the Swedish side. Wild camping is also allowed for groups of up to 5 people. (Important: from 1st June to 31st August, you are ONLY allowed to light fires at the official DANO sites.) On day 3, in the north-west of Stora Le just below the village of Otteid, you'll reach the portage to the Halden Canal. There are toilets and showers at the harbour in Otteid. Now you head south again. The Halden Canal feels a bit more like a river, but there's no noticeable current. After passing through the Strømsfoss lock (which has a café, toilets, and places to stay), you paddle down the southern Halden Canal into lake Aspern. Your trip finishes on the eastern shore at a lovely swimming beach. There's a new wind shelter waiting for you here with a view of the lake. We'll pick you and the boats up from here at the end of your trip and bring you back to Villa Smile. But your trip doesn't have to end at lake Aspern. If you want to add a few more days, you can paddle almost all the way to Halden, right down to Tistedal.
